Tamil Language In Cyberspace

• Software and operating systems like Ubuntu(Tamil Linux),Microsoft, Microsoft Tamil office, suratha Unicode writer and converter, Google search engine and guruji search engine etc  have greatly helped for the development of Tamil language

• Web blogs and social networking web sites play a significant role in imparting Tamil education all over the world in different forms-audio, video, 2D, 3D and motion pictures, etc

• People have access to the information available on the networks in their mother tongue.

• All the public domain information (laws, regulations, statistics etc) locally relevant an informative to the citizens for their health, security and participation in their public life should be accessible in the national and/or local language.

• Most of Tamil Nadu government websites are implemented bilingual( Tamil, English)

Multilingualism:

UNESCO takes into due consideration the existence of multilingual communities and encourages linguistic and cultural diversity. 

 

UNESCO has adopted the Recommendation on the promotion and use of Multilingualism and universal access to cyberspace, which focuses on 4 priority areas:

(i)                 Development and promotion of multilingual content and systems,

(ii)               Access to networks and services,

(iii)             Development of public domain content; and

(iv)              Reaffirming and promoting the fair balance between the interests of rights-holders and the public interest.

Multilingual Website: (Needs) 

1.  Social Network

• Development of social networking software and  Indian language e-learning software are required

• Complexity of design and implementation of the website.

• Useful for respective language communities in future for learning
